Kelly & Casey’s Story

We are originally from Blount County but we were in Florida at the time. We got into an argument with Casey’s parents, so initially we had to leave. We moved here with $300 to our name and with having 5 kids that isn’t good. My mom actually found a pamphlet about Family Promise and gave it to me. I just went out on a limb and called, and we got accepted. We just needed security at that time. It’s not because my husband wasn’t willing to work, we just had to worry about where we were going to sleep at night. My husband actually found a job after a few days of being there and eventually we were able to move out from the program. My favorite memory was when we were staying at First United Methodist Church and it was a few days before we were leaving the program and my son’s birthday was coming up. A lady in the program named Mrs. McCoy asked him what he wanted. She went out and got him the exact toy he wanted, a shark cake, and basically threw him a huge party.  It was just amazing! A person I got to really connect with was Summer (a previous guest.) Her story of how she had gone through the program and how she got to where she is now is just amazing to me. She is such a good person. We are so thankful for this program. We are now located in Athens Tennessee and doing well.
