The GATE Aktion Club – new partner!

Family Promise has a new community partner!

“The Gate’s Aktion Club is a service leadership group sponsored by The Alcoa Kiwanis Club.  Participants at The Gate have the opportunity to cultivate meaningful leadership skills while serving their wonderful community of Blount County.  One of our Program Assistants, Tene’ Lewis, had a vision for a project that would fulfill several key aspects that we at The Gate stand for: teaching pre-vocational skills, inspiring a sense of purpose and fostering the importance of giving back to our community.  Beginning February 4, The Gate will have the refrigerator at Sycamore Tree UMC in the Fellowship Hall stocked with soda for purchase at $1.00 per can.  Family Promise of Blount County will be our first partner organization to receive six months of soda sales.  It is a beautiful occasion when a vision and an eagerness to help those in our community come together in a new partnership!” – Jessica Lewis Program Director

We have also talked about partnering to expand this project at the Second Chance Thrift Store, and recruit some volunteers to learn thrift shop job skills!  Volunteers from the Gate program would be helping us to stock the beverages and count the donations for drinks purchased at the store location too.

It is so exciting when we expand our community partners, and we also want to recognize our long time community partners: Sycamore Tree UMC is one of our host churches providing Shelter and Alcoa Kiwanis  participates in taking our Shelter and Going Home Staying Home families on field trips and installed our Little Free Library (Stop by the Day Center and take a book or leave a book!)
