The national Family Promise organization has committed to being a leader in the fight against family homelessness, both as a service provider and as an advocate for legislation addressing the issues families we serve face. That’s one of the reasons Family Promise is working to change the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) definition of homeless, especially in regards to children and families. Our CEO, Claas Ehlers recently wrote an article for Medium that I encourage you to read. In it, he explains why it matters that a child who sleeps on a relative’s couch is considered homeless. It is vitally important that we continue to advocate for vulnerable children and families in order to ensure they receive the resources they need to create a better future.
