April Smith to Lead Family Promise of Blount County

The Board of Directors of Family Promise of Blount County is pleased to share that April Smith
has been selected as the full-time Executive Director of the agency, effective June 17, 2022.
Family Promise provides shelter and long-term assistance for families experiencing
homelessness in Blount County.


Smith has served as the transitional Executive Director since May 2022. She previously served
as the Program Coordinator for Family Promise of Blount County and has been on staff since
2015. Prior to her time with Family Promise, Smith was Services Coordinator with Tennessee
Early Intervention Services and Family Advocate with Foothills Care. Smith lives in Blount
County with her family and is involved with her children’s schools and sports activities.


“April has already proven her commitment to Family Promise of Blount County and has invested
countless years into ensuring that families are protected and served,” said Tonya Campbell,
current chairperson of the Board of Directors. “Our hiring committee interviewed multiple
candidates from across the United States and our local community. April was the shining star
who was the absolute best person to lead Family Promise at this time.”


Smith is succeeding Caroline Lamar, who was the Executive Director from January 2020 to April
2022. Lamar accepted the position as Regional Director for Family Promise and will be helping
Family Promise affiliates across the Southeast. In this new position, Lamar will continue to
provide support for Family Promise of Blount County.


Family Promise of Blount County provides shelter, transitional housing, transportation programs,
and assistance for families with children who are experiencing homelessness. By partnering
with local churches, community organizations, and supportive partners, Family Promise leads
the charge in building a community where every child has a home. The Second Chance Thrift
Store is operated by Family Promise to provide income for the programs. In operation for over
12 years, Family Promise has served over 350 families in the Blount County area. For more
